I admit that it was comforting to know that the cases of documented Diabetes has slightly decreased. I believe that Professor Hu has stated some key facts that most have not mentioned.
Obesity and type 2 diabetes go hand in hand. That is the reason we have this new terminology called “Diabesity.
Obesity is the single greatest risk factor for diabetes.
The most common complication, of course, is cardiovascular disease. About two-thirds of people with diabetes will die of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular events. That’s the reason it’s extremely important to reduce cardiovascular risk factors among people with diabetes.
Diabetes is the most important cause of several other devastating complications such as blindness, non-traumatic lower limb amputations, and dialysis and kidney failure.
Genetics plays only a small part in the diabetes epidemic. Unhealthy diet and lifestyle account for the vast majority of type 2 diabetes cases.
Diabetes is largely preventable by diet and lifestyle.
My concern is that the devastating effects of Diabetes will not become a global concern until Children start showing the devastating complications such as blindness, non-traumatic lower limb amputations, and dialysis and kidney failure.
